Soccer, Smoothies, and Sports Fans

Do any of the above words excite you? If yes, we have news for you: Tucker&Co. Bakery and Cafe is sponsoring its very first sports team!...and it just so happens to be Harrisburg’s newest semi-pro Soccer team, The Capital City Islanders. After many years without organized outdoor soccer in the region, a brand new program is making the Skyline Stadium on City Island its home. Games are starting in April with the 33-member team featuring players from the local region and a head coach joining the team from his coaching position in Lancaster. The Capital City Islanders will be facing other teams from the UPSL Division 1 Conference hailing from the Philadelphia, Scranton and New Jersey regions.

Did you know our owner/founder Heidi Tucker grew up with soccer, playing high school varsity for Dillsburg’s own, Northern York County School District? She reflects, “playing soccer from a young age gave me a foundation of discipline, resiliency, friendship, and a love for being active. Even though I no longer play soccer (though I still miss the fun of competing), these foundational skills I learned through the sport continue to serve me well as an adult!”

The collaboration with the local team makes sense; at Tucker&Co. we are all about healthy lifestyles, through movement and nourishment, and care about building community. You’ll find our bakery food truck- stocked with smoothies, treats, and other cafe favorites parked outside the stadium at every home game alongside our pop-up granola booth. The only time you won’t find us at City Island is on May 17th, when we’ll be at the Wicked Gluten Free Expo in Philly. We’re excited to start expanding our reach to the Harrisburg community, connecting with other fans of the game. Coming together to support a local sports team is a great opportunity to be surrounded by community, a unifying energy and experience which is good for us in itself! We can’t wait to cheer on the Capital City Islanders!

City Island, long home to the Harrisburg Senators, will now make way for another sport, after many years without an organized semi-pro soccer team in the Harrisburg area! We hope to see our Central PA community coming out to watch the games and support the team! It’s also a great opportunity to be able to watch good post-grad soccer in our area, maybe it’ll inspire some kids to try out or believe in their own sports’ futures!

The Islanders have organized theme nights for home games- bringing extra excitement to the fan experience, especially for families. Check out the schedule below to find the full list of events with nights dedicated to youth, community, and more. See you on the sidelines!
