Teamtime at Terrain at Styers, Glen Mills PA

Nestled in Glen Mills Pa, just outside Philly, Terrain at Styers, a garden lover and foodie’s paradise welcomed us for this month’s Tucker & Co Team adventure. Terrain is a one-of-its-kind artfully curated shop that blends outdoor gardenscapes into an expertly curated gift shop with everything from garden-inspired decor, coffee table books, to specialty foods and candles. Founded in 2008, Terrain is located on what used to be John Franklin Styer’s Nursery- a garden landmark dating from 1890- with hopes of turning the local garden center into a “celebration of nature!” Aside from being a delight for the eyes, Terrain’s cafe connected to the store offers seasonally inspired, thoughtful dishes at their Cafe- which if you ask me is a humble description of the full-service dining experience offered. Read on to hear about what we purchased and which dishes we had to try! We only wish more of our team could have been there to experience it with us.

A stroll through the shop is sure to inspire and stir creativity, with an open-air feel, calming vibes, and plenty of garden-inspired motifs- a perfect setting for one of our “team bonding trips.” You’ll want to be sure to block plenty of time for wandering through the plants and unique curios, inside and out. Spread across 5+ spaces, the store offers something for everyone. I purchased a new vintage-style “Post” Mailbox (found in the clearance section), an awesome book titled “Collective Wisdom,” by Grace Bonney, and an eco-friendly, natural bug spray made by “Kinfield” (because mosquitos love me). After perusing, we moved over to the cafe- located in what looks from the outside to be a shed, but inside; you are immersed into a “deliberately designed environment [that] blurs the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.”

The innovation does not stop at the space, the menu is chock-full of tantalizing options, clearly labeled to accommodate a variety of dietary preferences including gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan. I had the Halibut dish currently on the menu without the puréed celery root (because it contained milk) but the Halibut served with haricot verts was so good! Other team members tried the Chicken Pot Pie, Steak Frites, Campanelle Pasta, and Seared Salmon. Fair warning, if you are plagued with indecision when it comes to choosing your meal- this will not be an easy choice, with so many drool-worthy menu items. The culinary creativity blends into the drink menu- with craft cocktails, mocktails, specialty coffee drinks, and seasonal specials. We tried a Sea Salt Caramel Latte, Matcha Latte, Hot Tea, and Seasonal Lemonade. Oh, and although not gluten free, I’d be remiss not to mention their signature fresh bread- baked and served in a clay flower pot! It is served with a house-made seasonal herb butter topped with flaky salt- and if you’re gluten free, they do offer gf crackers to pair.

Both the retail and restaurant spaces of Terrain at Styers, carry a theme of intentional design, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for guests that stirs something within- beyond simply being a spot to grab a gift and bite to eat. We strive to intentionally craft our bakery cafe and retail space to carry a similar message, offering a neighborhood feel, with nourishing local goods, and satisfying meals and treats to create the backdrop for an experience for you- whether it’s to catch up on work emails, spend the morning studying with a friend, or a landing spot to catch up over our signature lattes. We hope you leave Tucker & Co feeling uplifted, and love to support other businesses like Terrain who share the same goal.
