Coffee Coffee Coffee!
Coffee. We all love it, some of us can’t live without it. The truth is, coffee tells a story. Behind every cup of coffee you consume there are people who have labored to get it to you, from the workers on the coffee farms to the baristas behind the counter. I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how much coffee we consume, not just in America, but here in our little Bakery Cafe on South Baltimore Street. We love drinking coffee, and we love making it for our community, but more than that, we love doing it thoughtfully. With all of the coffee options swarming around us, it’s hard to always know exactly where our coffee is coming from. Unfortunately, not all coffee is produced ethically.
Ethically sourcing coffee means that the farmers and their laborers are compensated fairly for their time and land and that they are provided the partnerships and tools they need to continue to produce coffee in a competitive market. For a long time, the coffee industry has been exploiting laborers by underpaying them and sometimes even forcing them to work on coffee farms. Not only does ethically sourcing coffee mean that the workers are treated fairly, but it also means that the production of the coffee from beginning to end is sustainable! If you’ve been around for any amount of time, you know how much we value sustainability.
Here in our bakery we use and love Little Amps Coffee. A local coffee roaster, they not only ethically source their coffee, but they also provide the stories of the people who farm the coffee beans! Not only do we get to make coffee that is ethically and sustainably sourced, but we get to know the stories of the people who labored to make such an excellent, and beautiful product. If you’re interested in learning some of these stories, visit the Little Amps website, and if you want to try this delicious and well sourced coffee, stop by the bakery, say hi, and give it a try!
